Award young scientist Alpine convention (m.T)

The Alps are a “living space in change”. In order to manage and develop natural and human resources in a sustainable way, creativity is fundamental both in daily life as well as in science and research. Innovation and “free thinking” play a key role.

Science and research are essential elements in enhancing sustainable development and young scientists play a crucial role when it comes to innovation. Research in the Alps, and on topics relevant to the Alpine Convention and its implementation, is a major challenge: trans-disciplinary, integrative, application-oriented and heavily reliant on innovative ideas.

The Award: The Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention has drafted an award of the Alpine Convention for young scientists for their work (diploma, dissertation, and master’s thesis) on topics closely related to the Alpine Convention. Relevant topics are listed in the annex to this mail on which we would further like to encourage you to motivate students and postgraduates to work. The aim is to give young scientists the opportunity to contribute to policy-relevant discussion on alpine issues in the frame of the Alpine Convention.

Three prizes, each of 1000 Euro, shall be given to individual scientists or groups of scientists, possibly every year; the award to take place on a public international event for the first time end of 2012.

Further, all accepted abstracts might qualify for publication in the form of an “Alpine Signal focus”. Through this award we would hope to enhance research on Alpine Convention issues and at the same time start collecting and publishing this relevant work.

The best work will be selected by an international scientific jury invited by the Alpine Convention
