Teaching tool on knowledge transfer between science and practice

Transforming research results into practice is the basic challenge for mountain.TRIP. In order to achieve this aim we are developing prototype of communication product; the teaching tool on knowledge transfer for sustainable development between mountain areas (Science – Practice, the Alps – the Carpathians)

What?
The teaching tool presents an example of how research results of a scientific project carried out in a given mountain region can be transferred and adapted to another region.

Why?
Many research projects produce tools or databases which are working in project study areas but could be also useful outside the considered region. We want to show how to transfer research results and achievements between regions and between science and practice.

For whom?
Practitioners working on regional development in European mountain regions constitute the target group of this product: local governments, spatial planners, nature conservation / landscape management officers, NGOs working on sustainable development; experts working on spatial information in national / regional institutions

How?
Our tool permits in an interactive way to learn how to prepare feasibility analysis (FA) of a scientific project, with a focus of knowledge transfer from one region to another, and the practical consequences. Specifically, the tool is dedicated to projects focusing on sustainable development and spatial information. The DIAMONT project serves as an example, while the overarching question is how to implement indicators used in the Alpine space in the reality of the Carpathians. We present and discuss a scheme of FA (the evaluation criteria, the study findings, the recommendations), and its theoretical background. Next, we present a detailed assessment of selected indicators of the DIAMONT project in the Carpathian context.
